French Blue Scots Pine

Pinus Sylvestris 'Central Massif'

USDA Hardiness Zones 2-8

It is said that the French varieties of scots/scotch Pine are the best for bonsai. French Blue is very resistant to disease and insects. It has the ability to grow very small needles and the foliage color is killer. This species really takes well to bonsai.

This specific tree is of the twisty type, developed by manual manipulation. Options are plentiful and future selections will plot the course for this trees bright future. It has lots of twists, lots of branches and lots of buds. The majority of this trees life was spent in this pot. No root work was done. It still has some of the nursery plug soil around it's base/roots. This would appreciate a repot in the spring.

The trunk is about an inch thick and the tree tops out at a little over a foot off the top of the 6" wide plastic training Pot.

The Wire scars are beginning to blend with the trunk and make for interesting features and an increased feeling of age.

Young Scots Pine, especially these young French Blues will bud back profusely when tempted.  With proper care needles can be reduced below 1/2 of an inch fairly easily.  Needles range from about 3/8" to 1.5" depending on care.

Pictures were taken 7-15-25.  We will continually prune, clean and care for this until sold.  The look of the tree could change slightly do to seasonal growth and temperature.  We minimize any significant changes after placed online and will generally update photos if changes are significant.
