USA-made. 3D-printed PETG. Air-pruning mesh bottom. Bonsai Shoes training pots are designed and printed in the United States from premium PETG — strong, UV-resistant, and unfazed by water, chemicals, and cold (only about 10–15% more brittle in freezing weather). The thick walls insulate roots from heat and cold snaps.
The Modern Oval
A sleek oval with clean, simple modern lines — the all-rounder of the Modern series. Suits just about any tree that belongs in an oval: pines, junipers, maples, elms.
Air-pruning mesh bottom
The bottom is a raised air-pruning mesh: water and oxygen flow freely, and root tips that reach it stop and branch back into a dense, fibrous root ball instead of circling the pot. A single air/drainage port in the lower perimeter wall adds extra exchange, while the solid walls keep the soil from drying out too fast.
Three ways to use it
- On a solid surface — roots grow through the mesh and colonize below for maximum vigor. Trim them back at least once a year so they don't thicken and clog the mesh.
- On a mesh or grated bench — root tips hit air and prune themselves, back-budding into fine roots. The classic air-pruning setup for a nebari-ready root system.
- On soil or the ground — roots escape into the earth below for the strongest growth while the pot holds a compact root ball. Trim yearly to keep the mesh clear.
Sizing
Shoe size = the pot's largest exterior dimension in inches (usually the width across the top): a size 10 is 10" wide, a size 8 is 8" wide, and so on. As a rule of thumb, pick a pot about two-thirds the height of your tree for upright styles, or match the pot's width to the tree's canopy spread.

Bell long delivery time
I've a small trident maple forest I just started with some small young seedlings and this training pot is working out great. I plan to order more for my cypress and mugo pine.
Unique little training pots, very solid and durable, really like the screened bottom should be really beneficial in developing trees. Note :pots are quite shallow so take that into account!
Really high quality. Free draining. I have a large collection of trees. I just repotted several today using their pots and I have to say im impressed.
Exactly as described. It’s thick walled and made out of PETG filament material. It’s a little rough in some spots where the maker did some cleaning up, but for a training pot, it’s pretty good. For the price I’d definitely recommend.
