Japanese Black Pine Bonsai Tree Seedling (Pinus Thunbergii) Kuromatsu 2+ Years Old
The Japanese Black Pine is possibly the most iconic tree used for bonsai in the world. It is considered a staple of bonsai and remains one of the most popular species used for bonsai. The Japanese Black Pine can be grown in USDA zone 5-9 which covers much of the United States
The needles of the Japanese Black Pine can significantly reduce in size making it great for small and large bonsai. As the tree ages, the bark will begin to bulk up, giving the tree a very old look. The strength of the JBP allow it to double flush growth each year which significantly increases ramification speed. Japanese Black Pines are one of the strongest growing pines.
Our Japanese Black Pine pre-bonsai and bonsai are grown from seeds. We carefully grow these to include branches, buds and needles on the bottom 1/3 of the trunk which will be essential if you wish to create a smaller bonsai.
This size JBP is ideal to wire and twist the trunk to your desired shape. The tree can then be maintained in its existing pot for one more year, but it would be best to repot or up-pot the tree in the early spring. Be sure to research the proper time of year to repot and work on trees in your area.
The Japanese Black Pine Tree Seedlings show in the pictures are just stock images from our nursery. The trees shown were all randomly picked up and photographed. We will pick out the nicest trees we have in stock for you for your order.

I’m pleased with the JBP trees I received. They were all in great condition with many needles. I look forward to watching them grow.
